Mozilla had previously made attempts to create a base for apps in HTML 5 but with KaiOS, which could be tagged as a successor to the Firefox OS in some ways, rose to fame after it was implemented with the JioPhone. The positive and increasing user base has made companies like Nokia and Alcatel to accept this operating system for their phone Nokia 8110 and OneTouchFlip Go by Alcatel respectively.
The KaiOS also made an appearance in this year’s MWC event. They revealed some upcoming apps that are to be added to their store which included mainstream brands like Facebook, Google Assistant and Twitter. The only name missing from the list is WhatsApp, which is now owned by Facebook. Although there is a DIY way to install WhatsApp in KaiOS, which is a long and tedious; users don’t need to bother more as the official app will be launched soon for the platform.
KaiOS Powers Many of Today’s Feature Phones
KaiOS, the Linux-based OS powering several other feature phones including Jio Phone will get WhatsApp soon. WhatsApp previously stated their issues about cutting down the cost for less popular platforms like Blackberry and Windows Mobile which led the company to halt the development of these platforms. However, in terms of KaiOS, the company has a different view and was reported to say by WABetainfo that
Important references about the development of a new native KaiOS app had been found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38, indicating the presence of a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp servers
This informs that WhatsApp considers KaiOS to grow as an important platform for budget phones. Now the company had also ceased support for Symbian S40 platforms on December 31. WhatsApp user base stands around 1.5 users and it will reach all the 6 million JioPhone users with this launch. Stay connected with us to know more about Jio Phone Whatsapp.
